Our Founding Story
Candela Habitus was born from a personal journey, a journey of frustration, hope, and a deep desire to create something better for children with autism and their families. It began when our founder started working closely with parents who felt overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure of how to support their children outside of traditional therapy settings. Many shared the same struggles: the high cost of care, the lack of inclusive spaces, and the constant fear of taking their children outdoors where they might be misunderstood or judged.
One moment stood out, a parent tearfully explaining that her child had not played outside in months because she feared for his safety and could not find a supportive environment. That conversation planted a seed. It became clear that while children with autism had immense potential, the world around them offered too few opportunities for them to explore, learn, and grow in ways that felt safe and empowering.
Driven by this realization, the founder envisioned a place where children could experience nature, movement, and hands-on learning without pressure or stigma. A place where parents could breathe, share, and find strength in community. What started as small backyard sessions, simple gardening, sensory play, and guided outdoor activities, quickly grew as more families joined and shared how much their children were changing.
Candela Habitus became the answer to a need that had long been ignored: an accessible, practical, and compassionate space where children with autism can build confidence, life skills, and independence, while their parents regain hope, support, and connection.
