Building Inclusive Outdoor Learning Experiences for Children with Autism
Empowering children to build independence, confidence, and essential life skills through safe,
sensory-friendly, hands-on outdoor activities that encourage exploration, strengthen social connection,
support emotional regulation, and create joyful learning experiences tailored to their unique needs.
Who We Are
At Candela Habitus, we exist to bridge a critical gap in the support available for children living with autism and their families in Uganda. Many parents face daily challenges, limited access to inclusive environments, high therapy costs, fear of judgment, and a lack of safe spaces where their children can play, explore, and develop essential life skills. As a result, many children remain indoors, missing opportunities to build independence, confidence, and social connection.
Candela Habitus provides safe, structured, and sensory-friendly outdoor learning experiences designed specifically for children with autism. Through nature walks, art sessions, sensory play, life-skills activities, and guided social interactions, we help children grow in independence while offering parents peace, support, and a community that understands their journey. Our approach combines child assessment, hands-on activities, and personalized sensory tools to ensure every child receives the right support both outdoors and at home.
We are committed to creating a world where every child, regardless of ability, has the freedom, confidence, and opportunity to thrive.
The Problem
Limited growth, play, and real-life learning
Many children miss out on essential experiences, like exploring outdoors, practicing self-care skills, or engaging in sensory play, slowing their overall development.
Social isolation and reduced confidence
Without inclusive spaces, children have fewer chances to interact with peers, which affects their ability to build friendships and lowers their self-esteem.
Parents feeling overwhelmed and unsupported
The constant worry about safety, judgment, and limited resources leaves parents emotionally drained, often feeling like they’re navigating the journey alone.
